Pope Speaks To Family Conference

VATICAN, November 26, 2001 (CWNews.com) - Pope John Paul II met on Sunday with 200 participants in a conference on his apostolic exhortation Familiaris Consortio.

The Pope told the participants that the family must be protected from the "violent aggressions" on family life in many societies. He said that the family has never in history come under such strong and sustained attack.

The conference, organized by the Pontifical Council for the Family, was organized in observation of the 20th anniversary of the papal document. Cardinal Dionigi Tettamanzi of Genoa, speaking to the participants, said that Familiaris Consortio remains newsworthy today.
